Gymnastics Class Descriptions
Twinkling Stars: This program includes the parent or child care provider in the class with the child. Movement to music, exploration of the gym equipment, and basic gymnastics skills are all the components of this 45 minutes of fun.
Beaming Stars: Our Beaming Stars class is 45 minutes of motion. Along with the gymnastics skills, 3 & 4 year old students will learn social skills such as taking turns, safety rules, sharing and cooperation required to be involved in a class without a parent. The class is rounded out with work on hand/eye coordination, foot/eye coordination, rhythm and spatial awareness. Our young gymnasts will have the opportunity to work on all the gymnastics apparatus including vault, bars, beam, trampoline, floor exercise, rings and tumble track.
Shining Stars: In our 5 & 6 year old Shining Stars class, the students will learn basic gymnastics skills in combination with work on hand/eye coordination, foot/eye coordination, rhythm and spatial awareness. Children in this age group are capable of handling multiple task sequences so more complicated instructions can be given. Children are encouraged to begin moving towards mastering handstands, cartwheels, forward and backward rolls without assistance, cues or special mats.
Shooting Stars: Girls: Students in 1st grade & up in this class range from the complete novice to the experienced intermediate gymnast. Within the class, students will be grouped by ability level and will work on appropriate skill progressions. These classes will involve work on uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and vault. Children will learn and review the basics of gymnastics and eventually build on these basics in order to move toward the more advanced skills. Also included is skill sequencing; to help the children understand the concept of routines. Boys: Boys Shooting Stars Class is structured and progresses in the same manner as the Girls Shooting Stars. The equipment used is as follows: floor, vault, uneven & parallel bars, rings, trampoline and various other equipment for conditioning purposes.
All Shooting Star Students are welcome to join our recreation “Fun” Competitive Meets that are held throughout the year.
Advanced Programs: Our advanced programs are by invitation only. These classes are for students who have mastered the skills of the class in which they are participating. Students are evaluated for the advanced classes by the teacher of the class in order to determine their preparedness of working the higher level skills. The increased commitment to the sport requires an increase of the class length to two hours.
